Mazhar Mamoon's wedding Bahawalpur. End of Summer 1972.My aunt uploaded this old picture of her with her sisters (which includes my mother). My mother is the second one on from the left, in the pale sari. Obviously I'm biased and think she was the most prettiest out of her six sisters.
This picture reminds me how young they used to be. They are probably going to a wedding. It probably is one of the first few times they were allowed to wear a sari. Allowed to show the world that they were 'grown-up,' 'sophisticated' young women.
It's bizarrely similar to our school and college 'farewell' dinners (of my generation) - the ones the graduating classes attends. Being part of girl's schools, saris were all in the rage for this event. It was a mark of being 'all grown-up', a lady if you please.
So many things can cross your mind when you look at one picture. Aren't these ladies, lovely?

I really envy you for having such old pictures of your family.
And by the way -- if it's not too forward of me to say this -- you're right about your mother. She does seem the prettiest out of the bunch.
Also, your blog posts are getting interesting by the day.
Keep them coming.

We just came across some really old ones....I was pretty taken aback, myself. Yes, we are lucky to have a them with us.
