The Dissapointments of Don Draper

There were so many expectations from Don this season. I have to say the expectations are now over. I would call him a male skank but his desperateness is even deeper than this category. He is a human-being that will constantly use physical intimacy as a distraction to his internal ego-bruises and existential pain. Men like Don both disgust and fascinate. Such men take immense psychological and mental pressures on themselves - while their coping mechanisms to feelings of loss in self-respect is to raise enormous appetites for risky behavior. It is the enthusiasm to gamble everything that 'should' be cherished in life which fascinates the human mind. It fascinates, because more than enough times, we, ourselves are willing to throw away so much for intagible and illogical rewards.

A few things I've concluded with this week's episode:

Don Draper will never pay consistent attention to his children.

Don Draper will never stop cheating on his wife.

Don Draper will eventually infect the entire Manhatten female population with STDs. As will the rest of the executives at Sterling Cooper.

Don Draper will never avoid throwing another person under the bus if the bus is coming right at him. If you ever wondered what kind of man exchanges his identity with a dead person; the scene with Don's "You people." to Sal should be a great introduction.

The thing about Don Draper is that he's so brilliant, smooth, handsome and strong-looking that you want him to be happy and feel good about himself. Or at least conduct himself with some respect. Unfortunately, strenght and smarts doesn't have influence with the illnesses of the heart - some of the most important ones to watch out is the loss-of-self. Don seems to have never had that concept. He seemed to have move from one position to another in life - not unlike a hunted rabbit. Waiting for life to pounce on him.
